15 October 2026

At today’s E.DSO Board of Directors meeting in Dublin, kindly hosted by ESB Networks, José Ferrari Careto, CEO of E-REDES Portugal, was appointed as new E.DSO Chair for a two-year mandate.

“It is an honour to take on the role of Chair of E.DSO. I would first like to thank Johan Mörnstam for his leadership and commitment to E.DSO, and I look forward to building on the work carried out under his Chairmanship” stated José Ferrari Careto in his inauguration speech. “Europe’s energy transition depends on strong, resilient and future-ready distribution grids. Our responsibility is to turn the experience and expertise of E.DSO’s members into a strong collective contribution. I look forward to working with our members and stakeholders to strengthen cooperation and ensure that DSOs play their full part in shaping Europe’s energy future.”

At today’s meeting, the E.DSO Board of Directors has also proceeded with the appointment/re-appointment of four Vice-Chairs: Eva Mancera, CEO of i-DE; José Manuel Revuelta, Head of ENEL Grids Iberia, Enel Grids; Franz Strempfl, Managing Director of Energienetze Steiermark and Robert Świerzyński, President of the Management Board at Energa-Operator.

José Ferrari Careto succeeds Johan Mörnstam, CEO E.ON Sverige and E.ON Nordics, who served as E.DSO Chair from 2024 to 2026. Outgoing E.DSO Chair Johan Mörnstam noted that “Together we have achieved a lot in the last two years. These were challenging times for DSOs, which are increasingly in the focus to facilitate decarbonisation. E.DSO has responded by intensifying its work and reaching out to new partners. The specific character of the association will enable E.DSO to continue to play an important role in the future.”

José Ferrari Careto is CEO of E-REDES Portugal since April 2021 and CEO of EDP Networks since July 2024. Mr Ferrari Careto has previously been involved with E.DSO as a Vice-Chair, Chair of the Policy & Regulation Committee and Chair of the Technology & Knowledge Sharing Committee.
