E.DSO highlights the urgent need for coordinated EU action to address critical skills shortages in the energy sector, which pose a risk to achieving Europe’s decarbonisation, electrification, and competitiveness goals.
While welcoming the European Commission’s Communication on “The Union of Skills”, E.DSO emphasises that a successful skills transformation will require further actions towards raising awareness of energy careers; improving gender diversity; fostering partnerships between education and industry; and embedding digital and AI competencies into training pathways.
This position paper outlines the following key positions and recommendations:
- The establishment of an EU Grids Academy;
- The creation of an EU-Wide Professional Certification;
- The promotion of Gender Diversity;
- The launch of a European Energy Careers Campaign;
- The development of a European Skills Intelligence Observatory;
- The acceleration of Digital & AI Skills Integration.
Europe’s electricity grids are at the centre of the energy transition. E.DSO is therefore fully committed to working with industry partners, policymakers, and all other relevant stakeholders to tackle skills gap challenges.
