Despite the extensive deployment of smart meters in several European countries, DSOs still receive numerous on-site intervention requests annually which, if not properly described, might result in failed interventions. To minimise customer dissatisfaction and the unnecessary mobilisation of field operators, the French DSO Enedis has developed an artificial intelligence-based solution capable of identifying incorrectly labelled requests.
The system, called ARIIA, analyses the textual comments provided by the supplier with their intervention request and uses natural language processing models, capable of understanding and interpreting the French language, to reclassify or cancel them where needed. In 2023, the system helped avoid 65’000 unnecessary interventions, resulting in a €3.7M financial gain and 100 tons of CO2 savings.
