Local authorities play a crucial role in the implementation of public policies for the energy transition. However, local officials do not always have a clear view of energy consumption in their territory and would require additional support from the DSOs to implement data-driven decision-making in their region. In order to support local authorities from over 100’000 French territories in contributing to the energy transition, Enedis has developed the Geodescriber feature and made it available on its Open Data platform.
GeoDescriber is a Data2Text tool that automatically generates texts based on territorial data analyses from the Enedis Open Data platform to describe the main characteristics of housing, residential energy consumption and renewable energy production in the territory. Thanks to its modular organisation, the GeoDescriber tool can be adapted to perform several data services and can be easily used both by local authorities and Enedis employees to interact with end-users and clients. In a few hours, the tool allows for the generation of descriptive text that would take a business expert several years to produce.
