The increasing number of low-carbon technology device installations associated with the electrification of heating and transport can pose critical administrative challenges to DSOs in terms of prevention of overload and power quality issues, connection process administration and investment management.
To overcome these challenges, the Irish DSO ESB Networks created a list of standard-compliant LCT equipment, established new roles and responsibilities for the registration and certification of these devices and consequently adapted the LCT connection application process, enhancing network safety and improving administrative efficiency. The development of an LCT Database, populated with the LCT devices and their location in the network, and of dedicated data sharing agreements further improved ESB’s visibility over their network and capability to offer customer-focused services.
