DSOs need to ensure high levels of network resilience and power restoration performance in the occurrence of high-impact events affecting the electricity network. In this context, incidents affecting the equipment of a primary substation appear to require particularly complex interventions in terms of materials, logistics, and time requirements. To overcome this challenge, the French DSO Enedis has developed a mobile, temporary substation to replace the mobile generators put into operation immediately after the incident and ensure service reliability during the repair of the faulty installation.
The solution consists of an innovative electrical substation kit designed to allow for transport on trailers and connection in 2-3 days. The effectiveness of the first prototypes has been demonstrated in several trials and through deployment after a major incident at the Perros-Guirec substation in Brittany in March 2022. The solution, initially designed to deal with rare incidents, has also proven to be effective in facilitating heavy maintenance or renovation operations. Enedis now stores several kits in two strategic locations, ensuring rapid deployment throughout the whole French territory in case of need.
