Smart Meters and Dedicated Metering Devices

Overvoltage and Linky Meters

Enedis has deployed an automated overvoltage and neutral-loss protection feature across all 38 million Linky meters in France. The meter disconnects the installation when voltage exceeds 270 V and recloses automatically after five minutes once the voltage stabilizes. Customers cannot force reconnection, while technicians can intervene remotely. The system now detects around 1% of overvoltage cases annually and has reduced customer compensation claims eightfold between 2015 and 2022, saving over €20 million per year. It also enables proactive field interventions thanks to precise fault location information via the Cartoline tool. Key success factors include the integrated breaker, fully automated logic, carefully calibrated thresholds and delays, remote deactivation capability, customer-facing messages, and continuous monitoring after deployment.
