For Sadales tīkls, short-term load forecasting (STFL) is an important step towards the implementation of an advanced distribution management system, enabling accurate state estimation and optimal flexibility activation. To achieve this goal, the Latvian DSO has studied how to minimise the STLF forecast errors taking into account the increasing penetration of wind and solar generation units.
Sadales tīkls’ pilot project integrated weather forecasts with SCADA data to return load and generation forecasts every 15 minutes allowing them to understand how to improve prediction of future scenarios and mitigate the risk of forecast errors. As the next step, Sadales tīkls will work on a full rollout of STLF to bring the forecasts to the network operations room.
