Stabilising Temporary Power Supply

Safeguarding the uninterrupted supply of electricity to consumers is one of the fundamental responsibilities of DSOs, who must strive to reduce blackout rates and the associated SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index). In a context of increasing prosumer installations, however, maintaining the power supply to users during outages or planned maintenance work through the use of generators is becoming increasingly difficult due to the recovery voltage produced by photovoltaic units and consequent shutdown of the circuit supplied from the generator.

To overcome these challenges, the Polish DSO PGE Dystrybucja has developed an intelligent system for stabilising the operation of temporary power supply and adjusting the operation of power generators to current grid conditions. The system couples the generator with an energy storage system managed by a battery control unit that allows for independent power control of each phase. Thanks to its modularity and compact design, the system can be quickly deployed and will be used both for emergency and planned disconnection of transformer stations.
