To enhance transparency and encourage innovation, NIE Networks created an Open Data Hub offering real-time access to detailed network information for customers and stakeholders. The platform brings together more than 49 datasets through Power BI and OpenDataSoft, providing visibility on network assets, substation characteristics, and system capacity.
The Hub serves a broad audience, including local authorities, flexibility providers, and renewable energy developers, aligning with the principle that energy data should be “presumed open”. Over the past year, more than 4,000 users have accessed the platform, generating about 100,000 dataset views. It demonstrates strong cooperation between transmission and distribution operators and supports the goals of Northern Ireland’s Energy Strategy and the UK’s Energy Data Taskforce. Continuous development will add new datasets and features in response to user feedback.
