E-REDES introduced a smart meter feature that automatically detects neutral loss through real-time voltage monitoring and disconnects customers’ installations to prevent appliance damage. A two-stage pilot with around 105,000 customers showed high accuracy: 94% of detections were confirmed neutral loss, 5% false positives, and no false negatives. Most disconnections lasted under an hour, and PLC PRIME alarms enabled quick operator response. The function is being rolled out to all meters, supported by firmware updates and a phased activation approach to avoid overloading field teams.
