We are glad to announce the publication of the eighth Radar edition, bringing new insights, updated technologies and a new approach to assessing technology deployment across Europe. This edition features six updated technology fact sheets.
The format of these new fact sheets has also been redesigned to provide a more actionable overview of each technology. For the first time, each fact sheet includes five new sections providing high-level indicators on:
- Expected impact on the energy system, including security, resilience and markets.
- Time to scale, indicating whether the technology is expected to to transform the DSO business within 0–5 years, 5–10 years or beyond.
- Link to relevant EU policies, supporting and fostering the deployment of the technology.
- Technology deployment across Europe, visualised through a country map showing where the technology is already being implemented.
- E.DSO members’ Success Cases and projects, presented through an interactive table.
These indicators aim to transform the Radar from a static overview of emerging technologies into a call to action, helping DSOs identify what to monitor, investigate and invest in.
The Radar also reflects the evolution of technologies over time. 5G and Low-Voltage Self-Healing have been removed from the Radar, as their impact is no longer only future-oriented and they are already being implemented in today’s distribution grids.

The Technology Radar’s ambition is to evaluate technological topics that have a potential impact on DSOs and their ecosystem (public authorities, suppliers, customers, and employees).
The objectives are:
- Early identification of new technologies, technological trends and potential disruptions.
- Increased awareness of the opportunities and threats associated with emerging technological developments.
- Stimulation of innovation by combining technology reports with business potential assessment.
A dedicated Task Force organised within the E.DSO Technology & Knowledge Sharing Committee, counting on high-level experts from a large set of European DSOs, was set up to produce the Technology Radar.
