Following the publication of the European Commission’s Electrification Action Plan and its proposal on network charges to foster electrification and digitalisation, E.DSO has issued two initial reactions setting out the perspective of Europe’s electricity distribution system operators.
E.DSO welcomes the recognition of electricity grids as key enablers of electrification and supports the focus on direct electrification, anticipatory investment and smart grid solutions. At the same time, achieving Europe’s electrification ambitions will require predictable financing, regulatory certainty, frameworks that enable anticipatory investment and a skilled workforce.
On network charges, E.DSO underlines that tariffs must remain cost-reflective, non-discriminatory and transparent, with tariff methodologies remaining within the competence of national or regional regulators. The reaction also stresses the need for stable conditions for DSO investment and that digital and non-wired solutions should complement, rather than replace, necessary physical grid investment.
Together, the two publications underline the need for a coherent regulatory and investment framework to support electrification and future-ready distribution grids.
