E.DSO Reaction to the EU Automotive Package: Ensuring Distribution Grid Readiness

E.DSO members are leading the deployment of e-mobility across Europe. As central players in the energy transition, DSOs ensure that distribution grids can integrate increasing numbers of electric vehicles (EVs) efficiently, reliably, and cost-effectively.

The European Commission’s Automotive Package, published on 16 December 2025, is an important step to accelerate EV adoption, support transport decarbonisation, and strengthen Europe’s industrial competitiveness.

However, the impact of the Package goes beyond the automotive sector. In particular, the proposed regulation for the electrification of corporate fleets, which make up a large share of new car and van registrations across the EU, represents one of the fastest levers for transforming electricity demand. Distribution networks will need to be prepared for concentrated depot and hub charging, often faster than traditional planning cycles allow.

E.DSO’s reaction identifies key gaps and missed opportunities that could affect grid readiness. It also provides practical recommendations to ensure the Automotive Package delivers its full potential.
