Over 40 participants joined in person and online for an E.DSO roundtable on vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and network codes, exploring how to accelerate V2G deployment across the EU. V2G enables electric vehicles (EVs) to act as mobile energy storage, allowing them to charge from and discharge power back to the grid. This capability can help balance the electricity network, especially when EVs are aggregated.
Currently, only a few EV models support V2G, but as the market grows, harmonised rules are essential to ensure standardised communication protocols and timely upgrades. The roundtable focused on the upcoming RfG 2.0 (Requirements for Grid Connection of generators) and NC DC 2.0 (Demand Connection), assessing how these network codes should look like in order to foster V2G.
